IN GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN, AT CITY HALL,
FOR JUSTICE FOR DA'QUAIN
A Call for Accountability, Truth, and Action
THE MURDER:
On February 18, 2026, Da’Quain Tre Johnson—a young Black father with an expecting child on the way—lost his life in an encounter with Grand Rapids, Michigan police that raises serious questions about excessive force, accountability, and justice.
What began as a police interaction ended in violence, trauma, and tragedy.
This is not just a story.
This is a demand for justice.
WHO WAS DA'QUAIN:
Da’Quain Tre Johnson was more than a headline.
He was a father.
He was a son.
He was a member of his community.
His life mattered—not just to his family, but to everyone who believes in dignity, fairness, and the right to live without fear of violence.
WHAT HAPPENED:
According to reports and eyewitness accounts:
On February 18, 2026, Da’Quain was riding his bicycle in Grand Rapids, Michigan when he was approached and harassed by police officers.
The situation escalated rapidly.
Da’Quain was:
- Forced to the ground
- Handcuffed with his hands behind his back
- Restrained by officers, including one placing weight on his back
- Attacked by a police K-9, resulting in severe injuries to his face
- Shot three times by police
He later died from those injuries.
WHY THIS MATTERS
This case raises urgent concerns:
- The use of force on a restrained individual
- The deployment of a police dog in a situation involving a subdued person
- The escalation to deadly force after restraint
- The broader pattern of policing practices impacting Black communities
Justice is not just about one case—it is about ensuring accountability, transparency, and preventing future harm.
OUR DEMAND
We are calling for immediate and decisive action:
- Arrest and charging of all officers involved
- Full, independent investigation at the state and federal level
- Public release of all body camera and incident footage
- Accountability for the use of excessive and deadly force
- Justice for Da’Quain Tre Johnson and his family
TAKE ACTION
This movement is about more than awareness—it is about action.
